“THE CROWN JEWEL”
We refer to the DIAMOND GX as the 'Crown Jewel' of the DIAMOND COLLECTION because it embodies virtually all the of the performance characteristics players seek in a fine traditional bow. We modelled the GX's weight, balance, flexibility, and response not only on the designs of some of history's most respected makers, but also on our nearly 40 years of traditional bow making experience. Not surprisingly, this is by far our most popular bow among traditional players and by all available measures, perhaps the most popular professional bow in the world.
THE GX DESIGN
Francois Tourte (1747-1835), considered to be the most important figure in the development of the modern bow, theorized a logarithmic shaft progression (taper) that would give a bow optimum distribution of weight and stiffness. Our research and characterization of historical bows confirms that within the broad range of pernambuco bows, there is a similar flex profile and a mass profile (logarithmic in nature) among widely-preferred bows. These profiles, well-executed, give a bow a remarkable 'evenness' and response from frog to tip. In technical terms, the GX shaft is highly traditional in its overall weight, flex profile and center of balance. We did, however, deliberately reduced the GX's mass moment of inertia relative to a typical 61gm bows. This gives the bow more response and maneuverability while preserving weight.
The GX also boasts our most sophisticated Acoustic Core. The core's formulation gives the GX the most 'organic' sound of all our designs. Since its introduction, the GX's Acoustic Core has undergone several refinements. While the GX's Acoustic Core is still woven predominantly of Kevlar (aramid) fiber, over the years, we have introduced a medley of new fibers, including S-glass, and select organic fibers. Each refinement elevates the design's natural sensitivity and organic response.
We adorn the GX with fittings that are traditional in their mass and dimension, thus preserving the feel and proportioning of a fine traditional bow. Consistent with the quality expectations of the shaft, our fittings are the finest available. The GX also features our XEBONY® frog, tomorrow's answer to the today's rapidly dwindling supply of instrument-grade ebony. In keeping with the integrity and timelessness of this design, the GX features the only lifetime warranty in the industry.
THE GX EXPERIENCE
The embodiment of master bow making experience, leading-edge research, industry-first innovation, and state-of-the-art manufacturing, the GX is our tribute to history's great performance bows. From Baroque to Modern and from Orchestral to Soloist, the GX has proven itself. Everyday, dedicated players worldwide trust their performance to their GX; someday, we hope you will be one of them.
“THE WORKING BOW”
The DIAMOND SX, despite having to exist in the shadow of the more popular DIAMOND GX, is equally remarkable in its manifestation of technology and design. While its celebrity sibling receives most of the attention, the SX unassumingly delivers consistently professional performance for legions of devoted and appreciative 'touring' musicians. Our intention in creating the SX was to create a bow that rivals the performance of the GX, but is affordable as a traveling bow, a practice bow, or simply a second bow. The SX's popularity has rapidly grown as players are less inclined to subject their primary (often valuable heirloom) bows to the rigors of practice, the risks of the road, and the increasing restrictions at U.S. Customs.
THE SX DESIGN
The SX most closely rivals the GX in design. By simplifying several aspects of the GX design and adding some unique features, we create a bow that is truly remarkable in its value and performance.
In technical terms, we reduced the overall weight by 0.5gms, preserved the flex profile of the GX, shifted the center of balance slightly toward the frog. We also reduced the mass moment of inertia, giving the SX a lighter touch than the GX. In players' terms, we made the bow slightly more lively than the GX while preserving the power and projection. Tonally, the SX offers a bit sharper, more focused and brighter sound (as opposed to the GX's rounder, warmer, more layered sound).
The nickel-silver fittings and 10-year warranty realize further savings over the GX design (sterling fittings and lifetime warranty).
THE SX EXPERIENCE
The SX is the ideal solution for any professional or working musician who is looking to protect their primary (heirloom) traditional bow from the rigors and risks of practise or travel. Baroque to Modern and from Orchestral to Soloist, the SX can handle the job.
“THE SHARED DREAM”
We created the DIAMOND NX design in answer to increasing requests from teachers and players, concerned about the scarcity of good quality instruments for advancing students and serious amateurs. Overharvesting and deteriorating growing conditions threaten the world's supply of instrument-grade pernambuco and brazilwood. As market forces strain nature's resources, supplies dwindle, prices increase, and quality declines. Consequently, those advancing players, for whom proper equipment is critical, suffer.
Applying our experience and expertise of professional performance bows, we were able to develop a bow model that delivers unprecedented performance to advancing players. Also using our technology and design capabilities, we were able to uniquely tailor a design specifically to needs of players at the intermediate stage of musical journey.
Specifically, at this advancing stage of their learning, players require a bow that fosters good habits, but also accommodates undeveloped techniques. Just as advancing riders need a training horse before they advance to thoroughbred, advancing players require a bow design suited to their current level Partner.
THE NX DESIGN
We created the NX design by engineering 'accommodation' into the SX design.
In technical terms (relative to the SX and GX), the NX is slightly lighter, has a softened flex profile, has a traditional center of balance, and has an increased the mass moment of inertia. These design features gives the NX a traditional feel and balance. Intentionally less agile than the SX or GX, the NX offers on-string stability and accommodation that advancing students appreciate.
As with all advanced CodaBows, the NX is constructed of the highest grade materials, features GlobalBow™ technology, and carries a 10-year warranty to the original player.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The NX is the ideal solution for any advancing student or serious amateur who is looking a single design that is both articulate and accommodating and will accompany them to advanced levels of play.

“Opening New Frontiers”
The JOULE is our first foray into truly specialized bow design. Inspired by the growing popularity of extended-range play [both electric and acoustic], we designed the JOULE for POWER. It's ability to initiate and command the lower strings belies it's traditional weight and facility. While at the same time the JOULE is able to finesse the upper strings. Though we design the JOULE with non-traditional instruments and styles in mind, we were delighted to observe that nearly three-quarters of JOULE players prefer the command of their JOULE to other bows when performing classically on their traditional 4-string acoustic instrument.
THE SHAFT (Strength, Weight, Balance, Acoustics)
Compelling about the JOULE's shaft design are its mass distribution and stiffness profile, neither of which is attainable using traditional pernambuco or traditional methods. The JOULE contains nearly 2gms more mass in the shaft than our more traditional DIAMOND designs. Innovative mass distribution delivers a more aggressive bite and and string initiation, and allows the JOULE to speak instantly.
Despite the JOULE's increased shaft weight, it’s center of balance and center of percussion remain traditional, thus giving the shaft a familiar feel.
Though we added considerable mass to the JOULE's shaft, we did not increase its stiffness proportionally. (This would predispose the design to over-driving the high strings.) Instead, we strategically stiffened the shaft to deliver power, but preserved it’s flexibility in areas more vital to higher register nuance.
Because the JOULE design emphasizes power instead of sophistication, it's acoustic core configuration a bit simpler than the GX. As such, it does not have quite the organic response and complex sound of the GX. However, the JOULE is able to excite modes in an instrument that other bows cannot. This reveals more layers of color and core often reticent in instruments.
Though our creation of the JOULE design is inspired by non-traditional play, EVERY player wanting to bring more performance from their instrument would be wise to try the JOULE.
Players performing Bluegrass, Fusion, and Alternative styles especially like the JOULE. Some comments include:
