When you bring high-octane energy to every cello performance, you need a carbon fiber cello bow that can keep up. Elevate your performance with the CodaBow Joule carbon fiber cello bow. • Balance: Center-Tip
  • Weight: Medium-Heavy
  • Action: Moderate
  • Stiffness: Medium-Stiff

Science defines a joule as a unit of energy, and that's exactly what you can expect when you pair a Joule carbon fiber bow with your cello. This cello bow’s name is a tribute to the 19th-century English physicist whose discoveries form the basis of our current understanding of energy. The cello bow’s design intends to generate more power and energy than any other conventional cello bow of the same weight.

How Is the Joule So Powerful?

Heavy cello bows give a fuller, bigger sound by maintaining a better grip on your strings. The CodaBow Joule has more weight than the standard cello bow; however, its power across extended ranges is influenced by more than just weight.

Inventive Shaft Structure

Unattainable with traditional materials, the innovative design of the Joule's shaft increases mass in vital performance areas while still ensuring a balanced weight and supple flexibility. This unique design allows the cello bow to seize the string and articulate effortlessly, whether you're playing percussive, rhythmic chops or rich, sustained notes.

Within the shaft resides a composite acoustic core made of durable carbon fiber. The resulting architecture gives this design impressive power that belies its quickness and facility.

Optimized Frog and Hair Length

With the CodaBow Joule, you'll notice a commanding resonance on the bottom strings and a bold projection that carries through every range. The shorter frog and longer hair allow for exploration in more aggressive and demanding styles and set-ups. The Turbo Xebony® Frog redistributes weight under the hand to provide more space for bowing techniques at the frog.

Layered Diamond Weave

The Joule gains exceptional strength alongside desired flexibility, thanks to multiple layers of our groundbreaking Diamond Weave technology. This enhancement allows you to command the string and retain the nuance of expression.

Don't just take our word for it — hear what those who use the Joule have to say! A seasoned Portugues violinist with more than half a decade of experience noted that the Joule afforded his playing "new expression and performance capabilities" compared to a classical bow.

Ready to Rock

Musicians of electric instruments and 5-6 string instruments appreciate the CodaBow Joule's capabilities and delivery. Its attributes are well-suited for sensational old-time, fast jam, and bluegrass performances. Joule reviewers report pulling ""a great tone"" out of their acoustic fiddles. Others are delighted to finally achieve a particular tone. One CodaBow violinist states, "The violin Joule has just the right weight for the upper and lower strings on my 5-string, and I don't have to work as hard to get the C-string tone I've been looking for." You can expect the same when performing with your cello!

Lifetime Durability

All high-wear components (including tip plate, tip wedge, and button bearings) are precision-made using industry-leading composite materials to ensure a lifetime of worry-free cello play.

Crafted for Sustainability

The CodaBow Joule carbon fiber cello bow proudly bears a GlobalBow® designation. With this designation, you can feel confident knowing your bow was not made with any monitored, regulated, or endangered species (plants or animals) and can pass worry-free through international Customs. Practice in Seattle, perform in London, and play wherever your journey takes you when you carry a Joule cello bow.

Nice bow for a traditional cello

I have a traditional cello and after home testing 6 bows from CodaBow, the Joule stood out the best. I purchased the Vegan version of Joule through Chroma Standard. It stays on the strings easily, allows easy articulations, and very well matches my playing of both classical and pop musics.

Great balance!

I'm a Portuguese professional violin player since more than 50 years now and I have your Coda Joule for some years, that I absolutely do love, even though I have exquisite wood collection bows like the Caressa & Français.
I think I got it from Holland almost when you put this model out, at a time when I was considering getting a 5 string violin, that I never did…
The different balance from classical bows, gave my playing a new expression and performance capabilities.
Keep on the excellent work and all the very best!

Amazing Playability

I have one hand, have been playing for over 2 years, and I'm an adult. This bow is incredible for me to play. Without a wrist on my bow hand, I don't have as much control as most others would. This bow's adjusted weight placement is perfect for digging into the strings and allowing me to produce more dynamic sounds than I have had working with other bows.

Well made bow

I turned vegan so I switched to a carbon fiber violin to ditch hide glue. I'm getting a Glasser 5 string AE after being impressed after trying one. So I ordered one of these to go with it in blue.

I wanted a good quality bow. Coda bows stood out to me because they already don't have materials from endangered, regulated or protected species. I ordered it veganized with synthetic hair and non-leather grip, and I'm pleased with the outcome.

This is my new bow for life :)

Thank you Coda Bow for helping make my dreams of a beautiful, quality, vegan violin outfit a reality.

Nailed it!

I had a Codabow classic. I love the Joule! Really pulls a great tone out of my 5 string and 8 string acoustic fiddles. I’ve been playing professionally for 40 years. This bow is better than my $8000 pernambuco bow.! Y’all nailed it!!!!

The Joule is the answer to my 5-string!

I’m a violist first but decided to try my hand with an acoustic 5-string.

Got a CodaBow Diamond SX (because acoustic)... only to find that I wasn’t getting the right sound out of the C-string without either squelching the tone or playing with one of my ultralight viola bows... But the tone still wasn’t right even without the heavy viola bow arm or the light viola bows.

Then they come out with the painted iridescent Joule... and I looked at my Amethyst SX and thought... trade up!

So glad I did. The violin Joule has just the right weight for the upper and lower strings on my 5-string and I don’t have work as hard to get the C-string tone I’ve been looking for (a je ne sai quois not a viola tone, but not like a 4-string violin tone either).

The iridescence is the icing on the cake. Turns out the Joule shines more Amethyst than the Amethyst SX from which I traded up!
