- Balance: Center-Tip
- Weight: Medium-Heavy
- Action: Moderate
- Stiffness: Medium-Stiff
By scientific definition, a joule is a unit of energy, and that's exactly what you can expect when you pair a Joule carbon fiber bow with your violin. The violin bow bears the name of the 19th-century English physicist who contributed to our modern understanding of energy. The violin bow is designed to produce more energy and power than any other conventional violin bow of similar weight.
What’s the Secret Behind This Carbon Fiber Violin Bow’s Power?
The heavier your violin bow, the better grip it has on your strings. This consistent grip allows you to produce a more resonant and expansive sound. The CodaBow Joule might be heavier than your average violin bow, but the bow’s weight isn’t the only attribute that contributes to its power across extended ranges.
Innovative Shaft Design
Where traditional materials fall short, the Joule's innovative shaft design adds mass to key performance regions while still ensuring a balanced weight and supple flexibility. This unique design allows the violin bow to seize the string and articulate effortlessly, whether you're creating deep, sustained tones or sharp, percussive chops.
At the heart of the shaft is a robust composite acoustic core made of carbon fiber. This design feature bestows remarkable power upon the bow, even with its speed and agility.
Strategic Frog and Hair Length
The CodaBow Joule boasts a compelling resonance in the lower strings and pronounced projection across all ranges. The shorter frog and longer hair offer the flexibility to move into more demanding and aggressive styles. The Turbo Xebony® Frog shifts weight from under the hand to provide more space for bowing techniques at the frog.
Layered Diamond Weave
The Joule gains exceptional strength alongside desired flexibility, thanks to multiple layers of our groundbreaking Diamond Weave technology. This enhancement allows you to command the string and retain the nuance of expression.
Reviews for the Joule speak for themselves! One Portuguese violin player with more than 50 years of experience reported that the Joule gave his playing "new expression and performance capabilities" compared to the difference in balance from a classical bow.
Ready to Perform
Musicians of electric instruments and 5-6 string instruments appreciate the CodaBow Joule's capabilities and delivery. Its attributes are well-suited for sensational old-time, fast jam, and bluegrass performances. Joule reviewers report pulling ""a great tone"" out of their acoustic fiddles. Others are delighted to finally achieve a particular tone. One CodaBow violinist states, "The violin Joule has just the right weight for the upper and lower strings on my 5-string, and I don't have to work as hard to get the C-string tone I've been looking for." You can have a similar story when you play your violin with the Joule!
A Lifetime of Worry-Free Play
All components susceptible to wear (such as the tip wedge, button bearings, and tip plate) are made using the best composite materials and carefully designed to ensure a lifetime of worry-free violin play.
Sustainably Crafted
The CodaBow Joule carbon fiber violin bow holds the GlobalBow® designation. This guarantees the bow is free from regulated, endangered, and monitored species (wildlife and plants) and can pass worry-free through international Customs. Practice in Los Angeles, perform in Paris, and play wherever you like when you have a Joule violin bow.

I'd read about the Joule and thought it sounded like a good fit, so took advantage of the free trial and tried out five different bows.
They were all impressive in unique ways, but, for me, the Joule was the stand-out performer.
Delightfully playable, impeccably balanced, able to pull sonorous tone - all while going from a whisper to a throaty growl at the artist's whim.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Plus, my entire trial experience was easy and enjoyable.
I absolutely love this bow. It is perfect .
This is THE bow to use if you're an eclectic musician. It has the perfect weight, balance and drag for musical styles like rock, jazz, fiddle, and popular music. The shorter frog is icing on the cake. (That frog has such an elegant look too!)
At first I wasn't sure about the extra weight toward the tip. But then I noticed the extra weight supports my hand for the more challenging bow articulations. Using the upper half of the bow requires less exertion now. So, that's a plus.
It's good for classical music too, but you might not have that same warmth and smoothness you need for such music. I recommend looking into other bows like the Marquise GS for that.
I have only been playing for a year, but I can hear the difference in quality that the Joule provides. It is more forgiving of my errors and gives a beautiful tone overall. I definitely recommend it if anyone wants to improve their sound quality.
I'm a Portuguese professional violin player since more than 50 years now and I have your Coda Joule for some years, that I absolutely do love, even though I have exquisite wood collection bows like the Caressa & Français.
I think I got it from Holland almost when you put this model out, at a time when I was considering getting a 5 string violin, that I never did…
The different balance from classical bows, gave my playing a new expression and performance capabilities.
Keep on the excellent work and all the very best!
I have one hand, have been playing for over 2 years, and I'm an adult. This bow is incredible for me to play. Without a wrist on my bow hand, I don't have as much control as most others would. This bow's adjusted weight placement is perfect for digging into the strings and allowing me to produce more dynamic sounds than I have had working with other bows.
