Incredibly Light Viola Bow for Incredible Playing

Pulling inspiration from renowned bow makers of the past, the CodaBow Luma viola bow produces a bright, clear sound as beautiful as the bow looks. Designed to be lighter than an average viola bow, the Luma viola bow’s lightweight carbon fiber construction helps provide a quick and easy response to help you articulate each note in even the most technical composition — especially those rapid bursts of sautillé. The melodic tone and responsiveness of the Luma are well-suited to intimate settings, blend well in ensembles and appeal to many types of playing styles, including fiddle players. The Luma viola bow appeals especially to players desiring lightness in weight and character.

Elevate Your Viola Playing With the Luma Bow

A popular theory may be that lighter viola bows can feel nervous, jumpy, and more challenging to control. That’s not the case with the CodaBow Luma carbon fiber viola bow. The legacy of renowned bow makers may have inspired the Luma bow, but the Luma’s composition is far from traditional. When it comes to the Luma bow, it’s best to expect the unexpected.

Large Dimension and Tonal Color

Classic ideas meet new-age engineering. A common belief among many viola players is that lightweight bows (and light carbon fiber bows in particular) don’t have the same feel and sound quality as a traditional Pernambuco bow. However, the Luma bow is more than just a carbon fiber bow. The blended acoustic core provides a warm, shimmering color and brings a large dimension to the bow.

Responds When You’re Ready

The Luma is always ready when you are. The carbon fiber bow is balanced and weighted to be nimble and quick. The streamlined Aero Xebony® frog off-loads the hand to enhance facility and increase the bow’s attack, while the lightness of the shaft keeps you perfectly poised for challenging pieces of music. This results in a lighter touch and connection that makes it simple to make quick tonal changes. The Luma bow features 3D diamond weaving that makes the bow lighter while delivering the desired flexibility and response.

Designed With Fiddlers in Mind

Fiddlers love how the Luma bow crosses strings effortlessly. Reviewers claim that the bow “really plays itself.” The lightweight design and craftsmanship of the Luma bow are perfect for playing country, Irish fiddling, bluegrass, and folk well into the night — all without tiring your arm! Though other lighter bows may provide less control and response from the strings, the Luma doesn’t miss.

A Lifetime of Durability

All high-wear components (including tip plate, tip wedge, and button bearings) are built with precision from strong, industry-leading materials to make sure you get a lifetime of stress-free play from your bow.

International Travel Approved

The Luma bow is designated with the GlobalBow® trademark. This designation ensures that our bows contain no endangered, monitored, or regulated species (wildlife or fauna) and is able to pass through international Customs without worry. Practice in New York, perform in London, and play your viola wherever you see fit when you have a Luma viola bow.

New Favourite!

This is my second bow from CodaBow, and my absolute favourite bow to use. I play Irish Trad., and find the Luma to be an absolute dream. It feels light and agile in my hands, and crosses strings effortlessly. It really plays itself. The balance towards the frog is an extra bonus!

I love my Luma Coda Bow!

The Luma has become my go-to cello bow. I love it. I have two Pernambuco bows which I now use only occasionally, mostly for the sake of comparison and variety.
